WEST ALABAMA SAND AND GRAVEL’S JOHNCO OPERATION A SUCCESS WITH THE HELP OF 1ST QUALITY EQUIPMENT

Mr. Clay Junkin, Vice President of Operations for West Alabama S&G, made the decision to purchase Deister, McLanahan, Cemco, and Polydeck aggregate processing equipment for their new JohnCo operation. His decision to purchase this equipment was based upon the reputation for quality of these equipment manufacturers and his relationship with 1^st Quality Equipment Company. The new JohnCo plant has been in operation since February of 2008 and his customers are "amazed" at how clean the final product is, due to the effectiveness of his plant’s equipment. 1^st Quality Equipment’s product lines once again prove their quality reputations are well deserved.

The Story

After using many different brands of vibrating screens, West Alabama S&G decided to take a look at Deister screens and thus began their working relationship with 1^st Quality Equipment. Mr. Junkin immediately noticed the differences in the Deister screen when it arrived at his plant, noting many things that other screens he previously had did not have: extra heavy duty construction, wear areas on the screen were lined with replaceable rubber liners, and low maintenance oil lubricated bearings. After seeing the huge improvement in his product quality, plant production, efficiency, and superior customer service from Deister and 1st Quality Equipment, he bought two more Deister screens for his new operation in White Hall, Alabama.

The JohnCo Project

West Alabama S&G purchased two new Deister screens, a McLanahan log washer, a Cemco Turbo Vertical Shaft Impactor, and Polydeck polyurethane screening media for their newly acquired JohnCo operation in White Hall, Alabama. 1^st Quality Equipment helped Mr. Junkin design the new plant, sizing the proper equipment to make the product that he needed to make, at a production rate of about 300 TPH of gravel deposit feed material. The unwashed material is fed onto a wash screen with the bottom two decks feeding a McLanahan MudMaster log washer to scrub the fine silt and clay off of the gravel. The gravel then goes onto a triple deck Deister wash screen to make the final products. The Cemco VSI crusher is in a separate circuit to crush oversized gravel, using a single deck Deister wash screen to differentiate the final product.

On Deister Screens

Mr. Junkin believes in Deister quality, and refers to them as the ‘Cadillac’ of screens. He cites the lack of maintenance and dependability as the main reasons he has Deister screens.

On McLanahan

West Alabama Sand and Gravel has a 44’ x 35" MudMaster Logwasher in operation processing close to 200 TPH of washed gravel, in order to remove sticky silt and clay from the gravel. Mr. Junkin is very pleased with the production of the logwasher citing the increased mixing action, large throughput capacity, and ease of changing out replacement.

On Polydeck Polyurethane Screen Media

West Alabama S&G’s Deister screens all use Polydeck polyurethane screening media. Mr. Junkin cites the versatility and ease of changing the panels around, increased wear life, excellent customer service, support, and Polydeck’s guarantee to make sure his gradations are correct, as the main reasons he is pleased with Polydeck. Clay Junkin states that "Cemco and 1^st Quality Equipment guaranteed that I would get the particle shape I need for the product I will be making with this crusher" as his main reason for buying this crusher. This crusher is producing a cubical -1/2" product out of the oversized gravel from the Deister wash screen at a production rate of 200 TPH.
